The Beauty and Speech of Will

1379) 10/10/10,
Blog Stats for 10/10:-
Today’s Plan:-
10:30 St Aldate’s morning service
13:45 CRM Cumnor
18:00 St Aldate’s evening service

Daily:- “Your social energy is quite a draw today, and you might find that you are able to push yourself to new heights just by acquiring the right people around you who can help you out in odd ways.”

Single’s:- “You surely love the idea of trying something new, but don’t get too far out. A barely noticeable difference in your style or approach to romance gets better results than anything radical.”

Couple’s:- “Now is a great time for you to make any requests you’ve been putting off. Sweetie respects you more than ever, and will almost certainly be open to compromise at the very least.”

The Glory and Power of Will
Saturday, 9th October, 2010 AD
1378) 9/10/10,
Blog Stats for 9/1o:-
Today’s Plan:-
Abingdon Eco-Fair? Yawn? 07:10, 9/10 No 6, can I have my life back, please? To the Global elite, can we have our civilization back, please? If they say no, would you step in and act on our behalf and do Your stuff, Baha’u’llah, please? I know and people that know what I know know that You DO have The Power to do anything You wish. 08:36, 9/10:- I started getting up but lost interest before having breakfast, feeling there’s no point to this; might as well go back to bed and sleep.

Daily:- “Life gets pretty intense around you — it’s like you’ve got a weird kind of gravity that affects social situations. You may want to push that to the max today, just to see what could happen next!”

Single’s:- “You’ve got all the power — the power of love, in particular! Don’t wait another minute. You need to find new romantic opportunities and let go of old, outmoded attachments or baggage. Keep on moving!” 13:30, 8/10:- I suppose you expect me to forget the last 4.5 years and move on as if it had never happened; fat chance of that!

Couple’s:- “Your partner will be drawn to you in new ways today, and you should explore — with ease — the territory that is opening up together.”

Daily Forecast:- “Forgive and Forget”:- “There’s just one way to get past this. First, understand that what happened in the past is over — and that the longer you hold on to heavy, negative feelings, the longer they control you. Relinquish the grudge. After all, will it really do you any good to hold onto it?” Love:- “You’ve had all the bickering you can stand. You’re ready to deliver an extremely terse good-bye. Just be sure you don’t rush out immediately to find yourself another worthy opponent.” Energy:- “Even you aren’t sure why you’re vacillating between teams, parties and causes. Try to be patient if others are equally confused.” Career:- “It’s easy. It’s too easy, in fact. Does that mean you shouldn’t take the position that’s been offered on a silver platter? Heck, no. Just live up to their confidence.”

The Independence and Knowledge of Will
Friday, 8th October, 2010 AD
1377) 8/10/10,
Blog Stats for 8/10:-
1 look at the Home Page
Today’s Plan:-
09:03, 8/10:- morning soundtrack, The Killers, an inspired choice, I feel completely restored in spirits after two minutes tops. Thanks a million, Yammie!
13:00 MECO Friday prayers and sermon, nope, it took far too long to cook breakfast and have a shower, and I’m full of irascibility and anger again
08:50, 8/10:- Sleeping a lot yesterday, having slowed up a lot since the op, has thrown up a lot of anxiety dreams from my subconscious so dark that I have again, for the umpteenth time, lost my nerve, edge and confidence, and become again concerned about the negative perception of me of my detractors such as the Hardys, and others like them, and the anxiety that their perception has poisoned the minds of others. Such is life, like “Atonement” by McEwen starring Kiera Knightley and James McIlroy, where their lives are utterly destroyed my the malice of others and in this life there is no respite. 11:37, 8/10:- negativity has been kicking in again, leaving that sense og humour failure and a dogged, grim determination to survive, despite the perception of total futility of doing so. Total lack of tuning in to Him, the CoH and the Abha Kingdom; I’m totally on my own again. 16:18, 8/10:- like Harris Telemarker? played by Steve Martin in LA Story, I feel “bored beyond belief”. 19:49, 8/10:- So Rose lived at No 48; fancy that! I wonder if “The Doctor” is living temporarily as a Lodger somewhere with a couple called Craig and Sophie, maybe in Colchester. But he DOES travel a lot, so COULD BE staying practically anywhere.
Why are you here?
That sounds to me like a question from an empirical rational mind, as one empirical rational mind to another, I’d have to answer in honesty that I have no idea.
Are you saying that your life is not directed by empirical rationality?
Absolutely, for me intellect is the servant of the heart, and my heart brought me here, so if it was your heart asking me why I’m here instead of your intellect, you might get a different answer, but I have no illusions that your heart is going to talk to me or ask me anything anytime soon, or am I wrong?

Daily:- “Your unconscious mind is working overtime, but it’s causing all kinds of little blips in your perceptions. Don’t freak out — it’s just a sign that you’ve got more going on than anyone realizes.” 08:50, 8/10:- I concur.

Single’s:- “Think over that one situation a bit more before deciding how to take care of it. There’s really no reason to rush ahead — and you may even need to run your for action by a friend first.” 08:51, 8/10:- Again, as before, there is no one to discuss this with except Baha’u’llah.
Couple’s:- “Your feelings are going to be considerably more intense today — and yes, that is certainly possible! Most likely, a positive attitude is the source of that energy; find new ways to show it.” 08:52, 8/10:- I wish my attitude WAS still positive, but all those clouds of perceiving others having negative opinions of me flooding into my mind again, and determined to block my progress in every direction; a throw-back to how I felt blocked by my father in every direction except watching TV. I need TLC, assurance, encouragement, accompaniment and there is, in the one area that matters, no one to give this but Baha’u’llah. In THAT area, every one is against me, even you, and only Baha’u’llah seems ready to listen to me.
Daily Forecast:- “Time to Clear the Air”:- “Okay. After a good week of pouting, stewing and being generally cranky, it’s now officially time to let the proverbial cat out of the bag. There will be no more keeping the situation under wraps. Stop sulking and start talking about what’s really on your mind.” 13:00, 8/10:- Like hell I will. After all the crap I’ve been fed over the last 4 years and am still being fed, what possible reason would I have to trust anyone with my feelings now? None whatsoever. Love:- “You’ve had all the bickering you can stand. You’re ready to deliver an extremely terse good-bye. Just be sure you don’t rush out immediately to find yourself another worthy opponent.” 13:03, 8/10. Actually, I still do not want to say goodbye, but since I’m forbidden to say hello, again, and since even if you said hello, again, I would trust you probably not at all, there’s still a stalemate between us which doesn’t look like it can be easily broken. There IS an underlying love between us, I feel, which cannot be denied or forgotten, but negotiating some kind of accommodation between our two rational minds, speaking as they do two totally and mutually incomprehensible languages, with no sight of Hoshi with a universal translator, our two hearts are limited to communication by telepathy and nothing else. Energy:- “Your mission: be completely and totally honest about what you feel, even if it’s not the safest course of action at the moment. You just can’t lose.” Career:- “It’s easy. It’s too easy, in fact. Does that mean you shouldn’t take the position that’s been offered on a silver platter? Heck, no. Just live up to their confidence.”

Blog Stats for 7/10:-
1 look at “1181) Poem, The Consequences of Assertiveness (2/3/10)”
1 look at “1161) Non-Me, Lazos Lesson 4 (20/2/10)”
search for “assertiveness poem”
search for “unfettered individualism and suffocating collectivism”
Today’s Plan:-
09:30 to 15:00 ITQ, nope, didn’t get up all day, on account of needing a rest after all the excitement of the last few days

Daily:- “You know that you need to make a big decision soon, but you’re just not sure how to go about it. See if you can get your friends or family to offer advice — now that you’re willing to listen!”

Single’s:- “Make your big decision before night falls, as by then, even minor choices are likely to leave you stammering. Have a friend or two on hand to help point you in the right direction.” 23:30, 7/10:- There’s no-one to discuss anything significant with anyway, except Baha’u’llah, so it seems to me that no decision is going to be made, and anyway, its way past sundown, when I got around to copying, pasting and reading this horoscope. If the decision is to not make a change, that would mean that the original decision of May 2006 stands; no problem.

Couple’s:- “Today is the best possible time for the two of you to plan something big together. Your attention to detail combined with your relaxed energy will help you come up with a fantastic plan.” 23:32, 7/10:- Hmm, this wordless telepathic communication of souls, which for all I know, might be a fig-leaf of my imagination and wishful thinking, is a weird form of joint-planning, if not totally certifiable, but IF the “prompts” are to be taken seriously, I’m on my way, and if the telepathic communication is real, THAT means you know exactly what my plans are, and have either arranged them yourself, or they are being arranged by the Concourse on High, with the nature of your involvement being totally unknown. So many variables and NO DATA. Just like flying by the seat of my pants, at night, with no instruments and a hood over my head with my hands tied behind my back. So who’s flying the plane? The Concourse on High? My arse!

1375) Weak at the Sneeze
Yesterday, 4th October, pending an operation
under general anaestetic,
I was prepared to die
though unlikely
through a problem with being under
and perfectly happy to abide by the will of Him,
the Lord,
the incarnation of the Everlasting Father
in the Lord of Hosts
come down with 10,000s of saints,
Christ, returned in the Glory of the Father,
Baha’u’llah, the Glory of God (1817-1892)
Mirza Husayn Ali i Nuri.
In the event I didn’t get within a million miles of “death”
on account of a cock-up on the paper-work front
entailing theater not knowing I was there;
but the death of the old self
seems real enough
with the post number reading 1372
72 being to me symbolic of physical death,
the number of Parrots-Eat-Them-All taken in November 1988
3 months after No 4 married someone else,
or the number plastered on the girder in the background
as Harry Osborne kicks the bucket
after being injured by a villain
after relenting
and coming to the aid of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson
in their hour of need
at the mercy of the Sandman
in Spiderman (one man can make a difference) 3,
the year in which Apollo, the fairest fruit so far
of the American Republic
was terminated
with Harrison Schmidt and Eugene Cernan
being the last Americans to walk on the Moon.
So 4th October equals death of self
and what happened on 5th October:-
I woke well and got up
had breakfast listening to Norah Jones
including 2 over-ripe bananas;
by the time I arrived at EMBS for ITQ
I felt vaguely ill with nausea, coldness, weaknes, a slight intermittent headache;
I left early, after finishing the last Word task, very slowly
in preparation for the Mock test and the exam, soon.
I was early for the UNA meeting
and sat in the church next door,
and balled by eyes out,
the tears flowing freely over Luke, 10 and 11
and bits of 9 and 12;
something was afoot;
something was at hand;
I attended the talk, “China in Africa”
and feel asleep at one point
I felt very weak;
tea, a pork pie and a jug of water helped;
afterward I asked about Confucianism
and the Portugese speaker seemed appreciastive of my input;
afterwards, I walked and chatted to an Ann
as far as her bus-stop
then returned to the church
to get another drenching in “The Spirit”;
then I chatted to Azita in Castle News
over a Boost bar
about my perceptions;
after my old self “died” in Him
He started to come to live eternally within me;
After death, a spiritual re-birthing process has started;
it involves all the features of going into New Labour,
there is pregnancy as a new child
the “child of faith” prepares to be born,
there are painful contractions and tears of pain AND joy
as the old self is squeezed
almost like Jupiter in “2010: The Year We Make Contact”
as the collective pressure of God
manifested in All His Manifestations
collect together tosqueeze the old self to death
and when the moment of birth occurs
when the contractions reach a climax
the new child of faith is born into the world
and suddenly Jupiter is transformed into a brilliant star;
the contractions have died down now
and I’m recovered some composure
but I feel very weak, am having to take things very easy,
my appetite is all over the place
I’m suffering from morning sickness
or is it mourning sickness?
and tonight I thought I’d choose the Alpha course
lesson 2, after the initial dinner and introdfuction
since they in this Spirit-filled church are very familiar
with the mechanics, the stages, the care needed by the pregnant one
from midwives
during this senstive, tumultuous and dangerous process.
Ya Baha’ul-Abha, and those very words
seem to threaten to make me dissolve into tears
all over again!
And this blog post number seems also relevant
since 1375
includes the number of “Woman”, 13
and the year I declared and was re-born intellectually
as a Baha’i
that year of ’75
the most exciting year of my whole life
So Far.

Blog Stats for 6/10:-
3 looks at the Home Paqe
1 look at “920) Poem, Sinead’s Famine (24/7/09)”
1 look at “1369) Journal, 2/10/10, Lazing on a sunny Saturday afternoon by The Kinks (2/10/10)”
1 look at “831) Poem, Sense of Humour Failure (22/5/09)”
Today’s Plan:-
morning soundtrack, Katie Melua
08:00 Plastics Out-Patients, West Wing, Level LG1, for an x-ray to see if any surgery is required after all, plus another appointment in the Hand Clinic, “Give me your hand!” 19:44, 7/10:- visited Plastics Out-Patients, Neuro Radiology, Plastics Out-Patients, Lichfield Day Surgery offered a quick earlier op with a local anesthetic, accepted that, looked the other way whilst my numb hand was cut open, some bones drilled, two wires inserted and then sown up, as I imagined you gazing lovingly into my eyes saying kind things like, your attitude to 9/11 is correct, you understand more about the Faith than you think you do, you wouldn’t hurt anyone, you’re (pleasingly) dramatic, you’re courageous, and I intend to take ownership of all your books. My heart felt full of fervent love, and warm affection, and sound of the electric drill therefore less problematic. Thank you. As for leaving you alone. How much self-control and discipline can I summon in obedience to such a difficult order? Lovely chat after the op with an Asian medic who was looking on who started it up with quoting the poet Yeats, “a thing of beauty” then asserting that he was also a doctor. We chatted about famous doctors, Yeats, Conan Doyle, Harry Hill, Aldous Huxley’s relative, the fact that many doctors are part time comedians, poets, etc, the investigation of truth including anecdotal and circumstantial information as well as empirical, the fact that the idea that art and empirical science are mutually exclusive is crap, Dr Who series 5, perception filters, the vortex, the doors of perception, waking up in a Lockheed Tristar in 1981 above the Atlantic at 38000 feet with warm brilliant yellow sunshine streaming through the port-holes and wondering where I was, and thinking like Morse in 1844, “What hath God wrought”. The English surgeon who did my hand seemed slightly unhappy I’d brought up the G word.
1o:00 Yoga with Tanya or Amy, no, still in West Wing
13:00 Kaleidoscope Centre, arrived late after the op, so missed shiatsu, good chat
16:00 CPN Sandy Tresise, went well
19:30 Intimacy and Separateness Psychodrama Workshop, might start on 13/6 depending on shrink, Dr Smita Pandit

Daily:- “Your people are more willing than ever to hear you out and let you take charge — but it doesn’t last forever, so make the most of it! You should be able to have a good time doing almost anything.”

Single’s:- “Those who hesitate may be lost, but in your case, some hesitation may be the best thing to do. There’s just no reason to rush anything, so why not explore these feelings and let others develop, as well?”

Couple’s:- “Today, you’re better off reacting to your sweetie than trying to plan out your actions — you will find that approach much more effective. You’re a natural planner, but sometimes you just have to improvise!”

1373) 5/10/10, Am I Still Here?
Er, yes!
Blog Stats for 5/10:-
1 look at ?
Today’s Plan:-
morning soundtrack:- Norah Jones
wake up in the land of the living, yep, job done!
09:30 ITQ, left early due to feeling the effects of pregnancy, or rather, to be as bit more down-to-earth, I was feverish, cold, weak, nauseous, but by evening very hot
12:30 to 14:00 UNA at the WMH, “China in Africa”, good talk
Westgate poem, “1375) Poem, Weak at the Sneeze!!”
19:00 Alpha/Qur’an class/Kidlington vs Climate Change; “Decisions, decisions!”, Alpha course

“Act in accordance with the counsels of the Lord: that is, rise up in such wise, and with such qualities, as to endow the body of this world with a living soul, and to bring this young child, humanity, to the stage of adulthood. So far as ye are able, ignite a candle of love in every meeting, and with tenderness rejoice and cheer ye every heart. Care for the stranger as for one of your own; show to alien souls the same loving kindness ye bestow upon your faithful friends. Should any come to blows with you, seek to be friends with him; should any stab you to the heart, be ye a healing salve unto his sores; should any taunt and mock at you, meet him with love. Should any heap his blame upon you, praise ye him; should he offer you a deadly poison, give him the choicest honey in exchange; and should he threaten your life, grant him a remedy that will heal him evermore. Should he be pain itself, be ye his medicine; should he be thorns, be ye his roses and sweet herbs. Perchance such ways and words from you will make this darksome world turn bright at last; will make this dusty earth turn heavenly, this devilish prison place become a royal palace of the Lord — so that war and strife will pass and be no more, and love and trust will pitch their tents on the summits of the world. Such is the essence of God’s admonitions; such in sum are the teachings for the Dispensation of Baha.” (‘Abdu’l-Baha, “Selections from the Writings of ‘Abdu’l-Baha”, pages 33 to 34)

“1:20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.” (King James Bible, Philippians)

Mission India:- “To be bold for something 6 that is worth dying for – that is true living. How can you be bold for Christ today? Or what would it take for you to be bald for Christ today? 08:17; 05/10:- emulation of the integrity and courage of those who are prepared to stick their necks out and whistle-blow on those in authority guilty of abusing their rank, power, trust, control in oppressing and destroying the dignity, self-esteem, self-worth, the very lives of those who should be able to turn to them for help in their vulnerability. Sinead O’Connor. QED!

Daily:- “You’re pretty good at keeping secrets — some might say too good! It’s one of those days when you need to share, though, so make sure you pick the right person to hear what you’ve got to say.” 07:40, 5/10:- Whose my confidant? My brother and sister, and the member of the NSA who’s keeping tabs on me. Anyone else? Nope!

Single’s:- “Check your social calendar — plans of all kinds, including but not limited to dates, are in store for you, so get it all sorted out. What do you really want to do, and who do you want to do it with?”

Couple’s:- “It’s a good time for the two of you to spend some time with friends — your social energy needs some new activity to keep the rest of your life going strong. If sweetie would rather stay in, try to compromise.”

Daily Forecast:-

1372) 4/10/10, Into the Valley of the Shadow of Death
Blog Stats for 4/10:-
1 look at the Home Page
Today’s Plan:-
Get up VERY early, leave flat at 06:00
07:30 report to Day Surgery centre in the West Wing at the JR, got there at 07:15
take “RFK” to read whilst waiting, yep, plus chatting to patients, and watching ST:Enterprise with Jonathan Archer, “Azati Prime”
get my finger operated on, nope, due to a cock up on the paper-work front, theater didn’t know I was there
and IF I survive the anesthetic, what anesthetic?
get picked up by “a friend” by 17:00, No 8 arrived at 16:53, but I hadn’t been told what was going on by then; she went home she her mum was cooking dinner
stay overnight with “a friend”, nope, no need, since I hadn’t had a general anesthetic, went home about 18:30

“214. Follow thou the way of thy Lord, and say not that which the ears cannot bear to hear, for such speech is like luscious food given to small children. However palatable, rare and rich the food may be, it cannot be assimilated by the digestive organs of a suckling child. Therefore unto every one who hath a right, let his settled measure be given.

‘Not everything that a man knoweth can be disclosed, nor can everything that he can disclose be regarded as timely, nor can every timely utterance be considered as suited to the capacity of those who hear it.’ Such is the consummate wisdom to be observed in thy pursuits. Be not oblivious thereof, if thou wishest to be a man of action under all conditions. First diagnose the disease and identify the malady, then prescribe the remedy, for such is the perfect method of the skilful physician.” (‘Abdu’l-Baha, “Selections from the Writings of ‘Abdu’l-Baha”, pages 268 to 269) 08:49, 3/10:- What wisdom does a bull in a China shop have? How do you teach diplomacy, tact and wisdom to such a bull?

“42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. 42:6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.” (King James Bible, Psalms)

Mission India:- “Down but not out. Discouraged but not depressed. Confused but not without hope. Praise God. Praise God, your Savior. What in your life is pulling you down these days?” 08:39, 3/10:- Not exactly a Communication  Breakdown with the BWO, but certainly tension and strain in the relationship, and INTENSE anger over what has transpired in the last 4 years, whoever is responsible. My own fault? I don’t know, though the pharmaceutical industry’s suppression of Dr Hoffer’s research in the Munro Ward in the 1950s is taking the brunt of my disgust, contempt, hatred, venom, invective, anger, rage.

Daily:- “Your boss or biggest client could pose some serious problems today, largely related to ego. If you can just placate them a bit more today, you should be able to get more mileage out of your work.” 08:35, 3/10:- What the NHS cause me problems? Surely not! Placate them? How, by pandering to the altruism of the pharmaceutical industry? I think not. Crossed swords anyone? On guard! Helmsman Sulu in “Mirror, mirror”?!!! Or have I got the wrong episode?

Single’s:- “Anything you put in motion today is auspicious, whether it’s a simple evening plan or something quite a bit longer-term. Anyone you meet could well be a keeper, as friends or much, much more.” 08:43, 3/10:- So who will be putting me up for a night on Monday, after my op? I don’t know, I just don’t know. No 8? Or one of her friends, perhaps. Ask at 10:30 plus.

Couple’s:- “You need to throw yourself into planning for whatever big event or trip the two of you have coming up. Fortunately, your mental energy is perfectly suited to doing just that at the moment.” 08:44, 3/10:- What big event? Please tell! Macau Orientation? Paid for, how, exactly? And for what purpose? To confirm what I already know, and why now, when my employment related skills are still non-existent in relation to even 3 months out East? Something else in February? Like what? A tour round the countryside? To visit friends, or just the two of us on our own? What a spin to Hereford to see Pete and a few others? Pete, you’re dreaming!

Daily Forecast:- “Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!”:- “At the moment, it’s all about how you look — because that will have a direct impact on how you feel, which will have a direct impact on how you act. See how this works? Might be time to do some serious shopping.” Love:- “Today’s diary entry: Today was totally hedonistic. I enjoyed every single second so much that I thought I’d overdose on happiness. Can I do it again tomorrow?” Energy:- “It may have seemed like an awkward thing to say or do, but you made your point. Trust that, and refuse to think shoulda-woulda-coulda. What’s the use?” Career:- “It’s easy. It’s too easy, in fact. Does that mean you shouldn’t take the position that’s been offered on a silver platter? Heck, no. Just live up to their confidence.”

The Beauty and Words of Will
Sunday, 3rd October, 2010 AD
1371) A Free and Inependent Press
a speech by President John Fitzgerald Kennedy

“The very word secrecy is repugnant in a free and open society and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts, far outweigh the dangers which are cited to justify it. Even today, there is little value in opposing the threat of a closed society by imitating its arbitrary restrictions. Even today, there is little value in ensuring the survival of our nation if our traditions do not survive with it and there is very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. That I do not intend to permit to the extent that it is in my control and no official of my admini9stration whether his rank is high or low, civilian or military, should interpret my words here tonight, as an excuse to censor the news, to stifle dissent, to cover up our mistakes, or to withhold from the press and the public the facts they deserve to know for we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence, on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations. Its preparations are concealed, not published, its mistakes are buried not headlined, its dissidents are silenced not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed. No president should fear public scrutiny of his program for from that scrutiny comes understanding and from that understanding comes support or opposition and both are necessary. I am not asking your newspapers to support an administration but I am asking your help in the tremendous task of informing and alerting the American people for I have (applause) complete confidence in the response and dedication of our citizens whenever they are fully informed. I not only could not stifle controversy among your readers, I welcome it. This administration intends to be candid about its errors, for as a wise man once said, “An error doesn’t become a mistake until you refuse to correct it.” We intend to accept full responsibility for our errors and we expect you to point them out when we miss them. Without debate, without criticism, no administration and no country can succeed and no republic can survive. That is why the Athenian law-maker Solen decreed it a crime for any citizen to shrink from controversy and that is why our press was protected by the First Amendment, the only business in America specifically protected by the Constitution, not primarily to amuse and entertain, not to emphasize the trivial and the sentimental, not to simply give the public what it wants, but to inform, to arouse, to reflect, to state our dangers and our opportunities, to indicate our crises and our choices, to lead, mold, educate and sometimes even anger public opinion. This means greater coverage and analysis of international news, for it is no longer far away and foreign but close at hand and local. It means greater attention to improved understanding of the news as well as improved transmission and it means finally that government at all levels must meet its obligation to provide you with the fullest possible information outside the narrowest limits of national security. And so it is to the printing press, to the recorder of mans’ deeds, the keeper of his conscience, the courier of his news, that we look for strength and assistance, confident that with your help, man will be what he was born to be, free and independent.”

“Section 197. O thou servant of God! Do not grieve at the afflictions and calamities that have befallen thee. All calamities and afflictions have been created for man so that he may spurn this mortal world — a world to which he is much attached. When he experienceth severe trials and hardships, then his nature will recoil and he will desire the eternal realm — a realm which is sanctified from all afflictions and calamities. Such is the case with the man who is wise. He shall never drink from a cup which is at the end distasteful, but, on the contrary, he will seek the cup of pure and limpid water. He will not taste of the honey that is mixed with poison.” (‘Abdu’l-Baha, “Selections from the Writings of ‘Abdu’l-Baha”, page 239)

“6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” (King James Bible, Luke)

Mission India:- “Perhaps you once prayed for 5 minutes and it seemed like forever. Sometimes meeting someone and talking to them for 5 minutes is harder than spending the day with them. Take your Bible, take a notebook, and go to a quiet place. Read your Bible, write out your thoughts, and invite God to sit in with you. When do you think you can try this? 08:56. 3/10:- Okay, “Turning Point” pages 132 and 133, where I got up to months ago:- Ridvan 2000 message, pages 8 and 9, “paragraph 17, With regard to the other objective of the external affairs strategy, the lines of action were guided by four themes — human rights, the status of women, global prosperity, and moral development. Our records show a huge step forward in the work on human rights and the status of women. With regard to the former, the United Nations Office prosecuted a creative programme of human rights education which has, so far, served as a means of building the capacity of no fewer than 99 National Spiritual Assemblies for diplomatic work. Regarding the status of women, the existence of 52 national offices for the advancement of women, the contributions of numerous Bahá’í women and men to conferences and workshops at all levels, the selection of Bahá’í representatives to crucial positions on key NGO committees, including the one that serves the United Nations Development Fund for Women, show how the followers of Bahá’u’lláh assiduously promote His principle of the equality of women and men.

At the same time an array of initiatives are disseminating information about the Bahá’í Faith to various publics. These include such innovative undertakings as: the launching of “The Bahá’í World” Web site, which is already averaging 25,000 visits a month; the issuing of a statement entitled Who is Writing the Future?, which is helping the friends everywhere talk about contemporary issues; the airing since last November on the World Wide Web of “Payam-e-Doost”, the Persian-language radio programme broadcast for an hour weekly in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area — a programme which is available at all times throughout the world on the Internet; and the implementation of a highly original television programme,  applying moral principles to day-to-day problems, which has won the warm endorsement of government authorities in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

A phenomenon that has gathered force as the century draws to its end is that the people of the world have arisen to express their aspirations through what has come to be known as the “organizations of civil society”. It must be a source of great satisfaction to Bahá’ís everywhere that the Bahá’í International Community as an NGO representing a cross-section of humankind has won such trust as a unifying agent in major discussions shaping the future of humankind. Our principal representative at the United Nations was appointed to co-chair a committee of non-governmental organizations — a position that is giving the Bahá’í International Community a leading role in the organization of the Millennium Forum. This gathering, called by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and scheduled to be held in May, will give organizations of civil society an opportunity to formulate views and recommendations on global issues which will be taken up at the subsequent Millennium Summit in September of this year to be attended by heads of state and government.

Humanity’s awakening to the spiritual dimensions of the changes occurring in the world have a special significance for Bahá’ís. The interfaith dialogue has intensified. During the Four Year Plan it increasingly involved the Faith as a recognized participant. The Parliament of the World’s Religions held in Cape Town last December brought together some 6,000 attendees, among whom was a strong Bahá’í delegation. Bahá’ís served on both the South African and International Boards of Directors that planned the event. For Bahá’ís, interest in the occasion arose particularly from the fact that the first mention of the Name of Bahá’u’lláh at a public gathering in the West had occurred at the Parliament held in Chicago in 1893. Two inter-religious events held in Jordan last November included Bahá’ís as invited participants: a conference on conflict and religion in the Middle East, and the annual meeting of the World Conference on Religion and Peace. Bahá’í representatives attended events in Vatican City and New Delhi sponsored by the Roman Catholic Church; on the latter occasion, in the presence of Pope John Paul II, Counsellor Zena Sorabjee was one of the representatives of religions addressing the gathering. In the United Kingdom, the Faith was placed in the public arena when Bahá’í representatives joined members of eight other major religions for an interfaith celebration of the new millennium in the Royal Gallery of Westminster Palace, where, in the presence of Royalty, the Prime Minister, the Archbishop of Canterbury and other distinguished persons, reference was made to the gathering of the “nine major religions of the United Kingdom.” In Germany, for the first time Bahá’ís were included in an interfaith dialogue. This reversed a longstanding attitude of Christian denominations which had avoided contact with the Faith owing to a book written by a Covenant-breaker and issued by a Lutheran publishing house in 1981. The remedy was provided in a 600-page scholarly rebuttal written by three Bahá’ís and published in 1995 by a leading non-Bahá’í firm, representing a signal victory for the German Bahá’í community. An English translation was published in the last year of the Plan. Interfaith dialogue took an unusual form when at Lambeth Palace in 1998 representatives of the World Bank and of nine major religions held a meeting which led to the formation of the World Faiths Development Dialogue. The announced aim of the Dialogue is to try to bridge the gap between the faith communities and the World Bank in order to enable them to work together more effectively to overcome world poverty. The frequency and wide embrace of interfaith gatherings represent a new phenomenon in the relations among the religions. It is apparent that the various religious communities are striving to achieve the spirit of friendliness and fellowship among themselves that Bahá’u’lláh urged His followers to show towards the followers of other religions.” (The Universal House of Justice, Ridvan 157, 2000, pages 5 to 7). 09:07, 3/10:- So although inter-faith relations is not a core activity, it is of at least SOME importance to the Universal House of Justice, even though it might get scant attention from the cluster agencies of Thames Valley!

Daily:- “Your big challenge today is to face down that one coworker or terrible neighbor who has been making your life miserable recently. It may be tough, but direct confrontation might be the way to go.” 01:19, 3/10:- Who IS that? No one’s been winding me up lately, not to my face, anyway. 05:57, 3/10:- But I have heard a rumor that there is a bot of backbiting at present poisoning the Oxfordshire Community.

Single’s:- “Romantic projects need to take a back seat for now while you take care of some other very important relationships, possibly relating to work. Make sure to pencil in some stress-reducing activities as well.” 01:20, 3/10:- Stress is NOT a problem, as far as I know, and it becomes so, an extra 1000 of B3 and 40 of B5 will do the trick. Work relationships? That IS an area that needs tons of work; income, benefits, DIY, serving by making my room hospitable, in short all the drudge jobs I’ve been putting off and procrastinating about for years; I need more discipline, more industriousness, more diligence, more application, more hard work.

Couple’s:- “It’s time for you to put your partner’s needs first. You’ll get yours again pretty soon, but for now it’s much more important for you to be as solicitous as you can be. The appreciation will flow quickly!” 01:25, 3/10:- I wish I knew what your needs were, so I could begin to address them if only to empathize with you. All I know are your instructions, which I am trying to honor, to the letter, though I don’t understand the spirit of your instructions. IF you have “issues”, as I have, and even more so in the past, have I had, I wish you’d share them with me, in case I could help, though it seems unlikely you’ll confide in me. I just wish I could serve your interests, and earn my way to being your best friend. Why? Because I fancy you something rotten? Because I feel attracted to the core of who you are? But what do YOU need, want, desire, and can I supply ANY of it? 06:15, 3/10:- BTW, IF I don’t survive the JR on Monday, everything I own becomes yours, you whose name shall not be mentioned, you, the right honorable member for Chengdu, the ex-secretary of the BCE and erstwhile animator extraordinaire of Oxford; you know you you are!

Daily Forecast:- “Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!”:- “At the moment, it’s all about how you look — because that will have a direct impact on how you feel, which will have a direct impact on how you act. See how this works? Might be time to do some serious shopping.” 06:45, 3/10:- Nah, £10 to get my bike chain extricated from behind a nut, and £50 for a 4 week “multipass” has been the price to pay for an excellent accessory, a huge plaster cast in my left forearm, like a buckler, to parry sword blows, whilst I counterattack with my right index finger on my laptop keybo0ard! Love:- “Today’s diary entry: Today was totally hedonistic. I enjoyed every single second so much that I thought I’d overdose on happiness. Can I do it again tomorrow?” 06:48, 3/10:- If I’m deliriously happy, being in love with No 6, am I living in a fool’s paradise? All the empirical evidence or lack of it says I am, unless appearances are deceptive, dishonest and two-faced, and hiding underlying feelings as yet unannounced to me by anyone! Energy:- “Step away from the machinery — and that includes the vehicle (especially if it’s red), the kitchen utensils and even the knitting needles. No, this is not a test.” 06:44:- 3/10:- Better wait for green and white Stagecoachs today to go between Kidlington, Oxford and Summertown then, and let the big red Oxford buses trundle on by! Career:- “It’s easy. It’s too easy, in fact. Does that mean you shouldn’t take the position that’s been offered on a silver platter? Heck, no. Just live up to their confidence.” 08:53, 3/10:- What position is being offered exactly? To be a missionary or pioneer in China? But I thought my basic training for that had only just begun; you don’t think I’m ready to be posted yet, do you? If you think I AM ready, by all means, light the blue touch paper and fasten your seat belts, but don’t expect me to do any navigating without basic training; you’d better sit in the co-pilot’s seat with me, or else I’m bound to fly into a brick wall. Capic?
